CW Cancels Runaway

CW canceled Runaway today.  Unlike some of the other cancellations, Smith and Kidnapped for example, I really don’t care.  I watched the first couple of episodes and didn’t think they were bad but I definitely didn’t think they were good either.  With so many good shows this season I don’t think this was going to be on my list for too long regardless.  I hope this early cancellation gives the generally likable cast, specifically Donnie Wahlberg and Leslie Hope, time to find other pilots for next season.

Hi! I’m new to your blog; nice digs you got here. 😉 I’m curious as to what you liked about Smith. I watched the first episode and that’s all I could take.

Thanks Missy. Glad you like the blog. There are a few things I really liked about Smith. I think the cast was great, particularly Ray Liotta, Virginia Madsen, Simon Baker and the always great Chris Bauer. The concept was original for network TV particularly the idea of lead characters who are amoral criminals without soft and fuzzy sides and even if the execution wasn’t perfect I think it deserved a chance to try. Finally, I think it was slick in its production values and really just was great to watch in HD Widescreen.

I have the utmost respect for Liotta, Madsen and Baker. No doubt about that. But the concept wasn’t really original for network TV. NBC tried it last season with “Heist,” which I loved and it was yanked just as quickly as Smith. There was also the Andre Braugher vehicle on FX called Thief. It too was cancelled. Of the three, Heist is the only one that really grabbed my attention.
